Our group has been around for about 10 years and gathered members all over Yorkshire via a dance school called Tiempo España Dance Academy which sadly didn't survive COVID. Some of the most enthusiastic members started meeting up again once a month in Leeds post-pandemic to practice more advanced moves and structures and we have welcomed people and groups from other areas to run bigger workshops on occasions.
Our Ruedas tend to be fairly fast with quick succession of moves while combining different structures to keep things fun and entertaining. While we have a few more complicated moves we call regularly, we tend to build up complex structures by calling sequences of elementary moves that can be easily followed but can make advanced Ruedas by combining them in quick succession. |
Rueda Rosa Blanca, York |
Hedge End Rueda, HampshireWe are a group of committed Rueda addicts, the group has been active for approx 20 years but current participants have been attending for approx 5 -14 years.
In the past we have performed at Cuban festivals and charity events now we enjoy the challenges of all the new structures. We meet every Saturday afternoon, there’s a lot of laughter and plenty of group input, we love playing with new ideas even if they don’t always work. We have a social tea and chocolate break between beginner /improvers and intermediate /advanced class, so everyone gets to mingle, creating a tight knit community |
Rueda de Amistad, DorsetRueda de Amistad was originally formed in 2016 from a grouo of friends who wanted a forum to practise more complex rueda moves that we had learnt and to teach each other ideas we learnt from congresses. We started being asked to perform for events and it was for this that we created the name and logo (our logo comes from a joke that rueda was just an excuse for us to stand around and hold hands with our friends).
Jim and Meg teach rueda for Salsa Explosion and there are classes and rueda social twice weekly. Our rueda community is strong and growing with over 30 regular dancers. Our style of rueda is rapid stacking of smaller moves and modifiers mixed with some longer group moves. We also enjoy learning and exploring different rueda structures. |
TW Rueda, Kent20 dancers, the core 6 of whom have been dancing rueda together for 16 years.
Emphasis on Social Rueda de Casino, and "called" rather than choreographed Rueda. We loveTOCADOF, Structures, Role changing & working with Dos Parejas (2 couples) |
Ruedaton, Lemington-SpaBased in Leamington Spa, we dance social rueda weekly on Sunday evenings, alongside which we have a group that started this year meeting bi-monthly to practice and develop our knowledge base. Our rueda group is growing with around 12 regular members and up to around 20 that dip in and out.
What we enjoy is coming together to share ideas, exchange tips and try out alternative structures and roles with everybody being able to contribute - it’s fun, more social and a different dynamic to partner salsa dancing. Looking forward to connecting with the wider rueda community, sharing knowledge and having a fun weekend |
AContra, Derby-AustraliaDancing since 2008 but as AContra since 2012 and this group since 2017.
We are lucky to have 1.5 fluent Australian Sign language interpreters in the group which has allowed us to teach students how to follow rueda calls in sign rather than rely on voice. It solves the big problem in a social setting where dancers say they cannot hear the caller. Our community (back in Australia) is around 30-40 strong (regulars) of varying levels. Rueda in Australia is still quite traditional without the concept of TOCADOF but we've always tried to make it fun and inclusive. Currently in the UK, Akshar is based in Derby and has been building a small rueda community in his weekly classes since 2023. |
Salsa Liverpool has been teaching Cuban casino style salsa and rueda for 25+ years.
Karen who heads Salsa Liverpool, is a PGCE trained teacher and utilises rueda as main style of teaching salsa to our dance students using a structured scheme of work. She teaches and dances rueda 4+ days per week in Liverpool, sharing her love of cuban salsa, rueda and dance, In the past approximately 10 years, our love of rueda has increased... We have developed a rueda based dance team, and a ladies only group. Our group love sharing our passion for rueda, learning new moves and structures, and meeting others to exchange ideas and creativity... so much so, that our aim is to run a Cuban salsa and Rueda congress annually; starting this November with an all day event and evening ball plus dancing!!! Yes, we are slightly obsessed and cant wait to meet you all |

High Five Salsa, Surrey |
We are passionate about rueda and love fast, crazy and challenging ruedas! We have been teaching Rueda de Casino since 2016 and we focus on technique, musicality and making it fun with active roles for both leaders and followers.
We love to reinvent ourselves and create new concepts. Some of our favourite rueda modalities are: transition calling, rueda with modifiers, rueda structures, rueda switch, rueda equis (new concept!) and dominó! We teach weekly classes in Redhill (Surrey) as well as teaching rueda workshops at national and international events. We also love organising weekend workshops, parties and events to promote rueda de casino. And we are SUUUUPER excited about RuedX! |
