After years of dancing both in the UK and internationally, we have learnt that there are many aspects that make a great casino/cuban salsa dancer (SPOILER: it's not only about learning a ton of moves or the most difficult ones!). For that reason, we have structured our lessons and our levels a bit differently. We are sure that whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced rueda dancer, you'll have an amazing fun time and learn something new in any class you join!

If you are a confident dancer, if you want to join our rueda de casino lessons, you can give our HAVANA Rueda de casino level a go too! Note that not all salsa styles are the same. For example, if you've danced cross-body or cali salsa before you will find that there are some key differences in the basic steps & footwork, the styling and the structure of the dance. Even if you've danced cuban salsa, you might find that our style is different as we focus in the traditional way of dancing casino. In our beginner classes (and specially the foundations course) we will teach you the foundations of TRADITIONAL casino dance and the typical characteristics of the dance.

You have danced Casino / Cuban salsa before but have not danced Rueda de Casino for a while (or may need a refresher of the common calls) You have no problems keeping up to the beat in different songs, even the fastest (or slowest) ones. You are already confident with all or most of the basic moves in casino/cuban salsa partnerwork: "guapea" (open basic), "dile que no", "enchufla", "vacilala", "exhibela". You may even know complicated figures in partnerwork, but not danced rueda de casino before (or not much of it). Even if you are an excellent casino dancer, we'd recommend starting in this level for the first class as you may need to get used to our rueda calls! Alternatively, you may have danced rueda for a while but not fully familiar with moves like: "sombrero", "setenta", "kentuky", "montaña", "dedo", "cubanito/a", "familia", "doble play", "al centro/al medio", "camina la rueda" and "arriba" variations of the moves involving a change of partners. Join our Rueda de Casino HAVANA Level On top of mastering the most common rueda calls, in this level we will emphasise the use of casino technique (traditional cuban salsa) with focus in how leaders and followers can contribute to make rueda a smooth group dance. You are a regular Rueda de Casino dancer!
Not only are you familiar with all the basic moves in casino in our HAVANA level, but you are also confident dancing in partnerwork. In this level you should be able to adapt your style to use the traditional casino footwork and technique that we use.
You should know common moves like "sombrero", "setenta", "kentuky", "montaña", "dedo", "cubanito", etc, and have mastered the main rueda-specific moves like "dame", "familia", "doble play", "al centro/al medio", "camina la rueda" and able to perform "arriba" commands/variations of the calls involving a change of partner. You are also able to clap, talk and laugh while dancing to the beat and adapt quickly when mistakes happen in the circle to help the flow of the rueda.
Join our Rueda de Casino SANTIAGO Level
We will focus in more complicated partnerwork figures and rueda figures for leaders and followers, as well as teaching our core High Five Salsa rueda figures. We will also refine your skills to follow fast paced calls. This level has been compared to the "advanced" level in other clubs in the area.
Booking in advance not is needed and you can just show-up. However, we recommend to message us to ensure that this level is OK for you!

You have been dancing rueda de casino with us for a while and some may say that rueda is almost your second nature. You should know all the aspects covered in the previous levels including:

- you have no issues following the timing, beat or tempo of a song
- you are able to adapt your style to traditional casino footwork and technique - you know the common calls for our HFS ruedas (e.g. saloneo, tarrita, ya tu sabes, cero, tumba francesa, directo pasando, ocho (mujeres), cadeneta, "vecina", "mentiras" & "arriba" commands). - you are able to learn new figures quickly after only a few repetitions - you can follow fast paced calls from the "cantante" (no basics) - ideally, followers can perform core moves taught in Havana level without being led - ideally, you are comfortable with calls involving body movement - ideally, you can adapt quickly, even if you don't know the move or hear the call properly. And overall, you enjoy an extra challenge with a smile on your face and without too much of a problem! |
