Salsa: Casino and Rueda de casino
"Cuban salsa is a fun and invigorating way of having a great time".
Nice words, right?... but what does it really mean?
Well, have you ever watched people on the dance floor or in movies and thought 'it looks amazing, but I can't do that'. The fact is maybe you can or maybe you can't, but there is nothing stopping you trying! and the good news is that either way the process is amazing fun! So what is there to loose?
In High Five salsa we would love to introduce you to the great fun that is cuban salsa, in which YOU get to dance, meet new people and get an awesome cardio workout.
And just in case if you still have some doubts, let's continue killing some myths:
Myth 1 - Thanks but... I haven't got any rhythm.
You can learn it. Trust me you really can. Depending on your starting level it might take some time, effort and dedication (and definitely lots of practice and listening to the right music!!) ... but it is certainly possible and we can show you some tips to learn how to do it!
Myth 2 - Thanks but...I've got two left feet.
Nope you haven't (at least anatomically speaking!). And even if you feel like that, we can show you how to move them, at a pace that works for you.
Myth 3 - Thanks but.. I need a partner and I don't have one!
Actually you don't need a parter: we have a great mix of couples, singles and lots of our dancers want to try both to lead and follow which gives us lots of flexibility to try to match our couples and we always try to make make it happen.
In a nutshell: High Five Salsa is bringing you all the fun, the energy and good vibes of this amazing latin dance. Their teachers (Diego and Noe) are passionate about dancing and making salsa lessons engaging, inventive and incredibly enjoyable for everyone!
As well as mastering some salsa moves that leave you grinning ear to ear, you will learn how to follow the salsa rhythm, and Salsa styling,
Steps aren't everything wiggling your hips, and we'll help you master what works and what doesn't.
They run weekly lessons on Mondays in Dorking (Rueda de Casino, this is danced in groups and is fantastically fun) and on Thursdays in Betchworth (cuban salsa routines this is teaching you those skills to strut your stuff on the dance floor).
Not sure if salsa is for you? Check out the other sections to have a better idea, feel free to drop us a message if you have any questions or even better: come and join us for a night and see how great it is for yourselves!!

High Five Salsa |
Hive Five is not only a move in which two people slap each other's palms with their arms raised, but also a gesture of celebration or greeting. That is exactly the attitude we want to encourage dancers to have while dancing away with us.
Don´t worry about making mistakes of having two left feet. Our main aim is to enjoy, celebrate, laugh, and of course... learn some salsa steps and have a good time meeting people and doing some exercise (with the occasional high five here and there to celebrate after a good dance!) Funnily enough, one of the basic Rueda de casino steps could also be seen as a High Five gesture! ;) Either way, the best thing to do is to come to one of our classes and high five with your own hands! :) |
